Since the huge boom of the internet took over the world, a great amount of communication is now had via emails, instant messaging or in chat sites. As leery as people seem to be over chat sites, it is a pretty amazing concept that you can talk to anyone, anywhere in the world with just a few keystrokes on your keyboard. Chat sites have become so popular and in demand, that theyre popping up everywhere. Typically, chat sites are thought of as being rooms where single people want to meet other single people. That is not the case anymore. You can find chat sites for your hobbies, illnesses, age brackets, homework, careers almost anything you can imagine. Sometimes, you dont have an interest in meeting someone else for the sake of dating; you want to chat with someone who may be going through a similar crisis in life. Support groups can take place on chat sites. In fact, it may be easier to talk to others when it is in a chat site. Why? Because there is a certain sense of security when you arent sitting
face to face. It may be much easier to simply spill out your thoughts through typing your words instead of saying them out loud.
In my hometown, there is a popular chat site that parents have created. While you can remain anonymous, you can enter this chat site to talk about your children and find out how many other parents are facing the same situations and share your thoughts and ideas. Names never get mentioned unless someone feels that a child is in harms way, but so many parents love the idea of this chat site, that it is always full. It is simply nice to talk to other parents who know what youre going through.
Of course, if you have children or teenagers, their usage and time in chat sites should be monitored closely. Yes, there are predators who use the internet to lure a new victim into their twisted plans. Yes, children and teens whom should know better, have disappeared after agreeing to meet someone in person that they have met in chat sites. Not everyone is always honest on the internet. You can enter chat sites and make yourself be any gender, any age, and anything else that you want. While it can be great to have supportive conversations without being face to face, it can also be hard to gain a level of trust with someone that you happen to meet in a chat site. While you dont have to prohibit your children from using chat sites, you should have a conversation about what can happen if a bit of caution isnt used at times. They might sit there and roll their eyes, but you may just be doing them a huge favor.
