I fully subscribe to the belief that families need to spend quality time with each other in order to promote a healthy home environment. Whether it's eating dinner together every night without the distractions of TVs, iPods, or cell phones, or going on weekend camping trips, it's important that do things as a group. Having a hobby that the whole family can participate in and enjoy is another great way to ensure that we get quality time together, which is why I'm glad we discovered just how fun remote control toys can be.
It all started when my son received an RC car for his birthday a few months ago. He immediately fell in love with the thing, and easily occupied himself for hours at a time learning how to work the controls to perfection. Once he set up a mini driving course in the basement, my other kids took an interest as well. Soon, every member of the family wanted remote control toys of their own to play with. Since I thought it was a harmless hobby that would keep the children playing with each other, I agreed to buy them whatever remote control toys they wanted.
From there, the hobby just took off. Our family collection of remote control toys now includes a whole array of cars, motorcycles, trucks, and off-road vehicles in a variety of designs and colors. We even went so far as to buy an RC airplane and helicopter, though those are a bit too difficult for the kids to handle. But still, the other remote control toys are a hit, and now our house is one of the most popular on the block. All the youngsters from the neighborhood stop by to take a turn at the controls, which is just fine by us. It's amazing to see everyone having so much fun right in the basement!
But the problem with buying so many remote control toys is that we've already run through the limited selection available at local hobby shops and department stores. That means we now have to shop online for all of our RC needs -- which actually isn't a bad thing. In fact, we've discovered quite a few websites that offer nice discounts on all their remote control toys, and even give special deals to repeat or frequent customers. That certainly makes it easier to keep our collection full of the latest and greatest that the manufacturers produce.
I never would have guessed that my entire family would take such an immense liking to remote control toys, but that's exactly what happened. Racing these little vehicles around our track has become one of our favorite hobbies and is a wonderful way to keep us spending time together.
