I grew up with round dinner plates, as did most everyone else. You probably did too. What is great about things around the home is that there are always improvements as time goes on, and things can change in color and shape just for the fun of it. I recently went to a restaurant that changed to having all square dinner plates, and I have to admit that I liked the look of them. It was definitely not a big deal, they were something a bit different. I havent decided just yet, but I may get some of them for my own home.
What I thought when I saw the square dinner plates, other than just the new and interesting shape, was that they may be better for portion control. They hold the same amount of food as a comparable round plate, but things seem to have less room. Portion control is something I worry about, not only for myself but for my daughter. Perhaps having the square dinner plates can help with this. Shes thin now, but I hope to also make sure she stays healthy in the future as well. Teaching her potion control now gives her that control in the future.
Depending on what size of the square dinner plates you may get, you may notice that they stack better in your cupboards. If space is an issue for you like it is for me, this can save you some inches in your cabinets. That might not seem like a lot, but it can make a difference when space is tight. They may also be easier to deal with when you are washing them by hand. They can go in a dishwasher the same as round ones, and you may even save some space in there with square dinner plates.
If you get the square dinner plates, you may or may not like them. If for some reason you decide that you want to go back to the round type, dont worry, there are other things you can do with your square plates. For one, they make a great way to add to your home dcor. If you have some interesting ones, you can display a few of them on a shelf. You can also use them to hold some things like pretty rocks, glass rocks, or anything else you may think would be nicely displayed as a centerpiece or as a decoration on your end or coffee tables.
